Luna Park Melbourne
Coasterz 'n' Canyonz Blog Day 01
Watch out Australia.............
The other side of the world - no problem After 4 years of saving and a year of planning the tour is finally under way.
Leaving home mid-afternoon on Friday, we arrived 30 hours later in Melbourne. Flights and bargain "premium" low-cost seating converting into lie-flat beds made the flghts very enjoyable and we're not suffering any jet-lag (yet!!!).
AirAsia X A340
Our "free" bottle of water from AirAsia (no we didn't have to share it!)
Ian demonstrating the length of the seat when converted to a bed. Big thumbs up to the excellent pillow and duvet provided for use during the flight.
Arriving in Melbourne, nice and warm but a bit windy and overcast.
Ian felt immediately at home for some reason.
Within 3 hours of arriving we were at our first park - and the iconic entrance to Luna Park in Melbourne St. Kilda.
The traditional seaside amusement park is encircled by the 1912 Scenic Railway coaster (the main reason for choosing this as our first stop)
Fantastic station building for the coaster.
Similar in style to the namesake Scenic Railways at Margate and Great Yarmouth.
Other coasters and rides look very inviting. Now for the bad news - IT'S ALL CLOSED!!!!!!!!!!
Very few rides were operating because of the wind - (slightly breezy by UK standards). To say we were gutted is an understatement. The reason for coming to Melboune was not running and we have no chance of doing it another day. One of the oldest operating coasters in the world escapes our "coasters ridden" lists - and we're thinking it will be forever - the chances of us returning in the future are virtually zero. Gutted.
Later in the day the weather worsened. We thought February was summer "down under" - but didn't bargain for a typical UK summers day!!!
