Queenstown | The Ledge Bungy / Swing | Skyline Luge
Coasterz 'n' Canyonz Blog Day 17
Just a 2-minute walk from the hotel........ Our last full day in Queenstown and time to check out some attractions just next to our hotel. The Skyline cable car is similar to the one we visited in Rotorua last week, except this one is very steep and takes you 400m above Queenstown.
The trip up and Queenstown becomes very small, very quick!
And the views are the main reason people of all ages take the trip
Of course, this being the "Adventure Capital of the World", there's more than just the views to enjoy. Take a zip-line trek down the hill, extreme mountain biking, paragliding and, the reason for our visit, another swing and bungy!
The only difference here, is this starts VERY high up (400m). The actual bungy and swing aren't that big (47m) in comparison to others we've tried in the last few days, but having the platform so high up, gives the illusion of an extreme activity (which of course it is).
From some angles, the platform looks like it hangs in mid-air.
as this person demonstrates (upside down!).
Ian just had to try both, starting with the Bungy. Instead of the traditional tied-feet start, you are connected at the waist. This allows jumpers to take a run and jump.
Ian just leaving the platform, having ran at the drop from the back of the platform.
And down he goes...
and down....
Careful of the harness - it tightens in all the sensitive areas!
Ninjaaaaaa..
And finally, winched back to the start.
Bungy done - tick. Now for the swing.......
What, no countdown?
Weeeeeeeee... (again)
Different harness, same issues!
It's more extreme than others on the trip, proving it's not all about statistics
Also at the top are 2 luge tracks, not as scary as Rotorua's (as it wasn't raining), but still enjoyable.
And you can't stop taking in the views, whatever activity you choose. After all the excitement, we spent the last hour watching the para-gliders taking off (Yes, they are tandem - and it's a paid activity. No we didn't have a go!).
Until tomorrow.......
