Newark Airport - Dorney Park

USA 2014 Blog Day 1

Hi there folks, and welcome to day one of our USA blog ! It was an early 5am rise this morning although our hotel at Birmingham airport was only a 5 minute walk to the terminal, so an early check-in followed by a king size breakfast saw us taking off on time at 9am. Lady luck was definitely on our side as shortly after taking off the pilot announced that we would actually be arriving at Newark Airport an hour earlier than expected, adding an extra hour to the holiday that we weren’t expecting ... result !

Once landed, a 90 minute drive took us to our first park of the trip – Dorney Park, Pennsylvania, where we met up with our good friend (and fellow coaster enthusiast) Dan along with his mate Eric who had kindly arranged to spend a day with us to kick start the trip. The weather was a very welcoming 82 degrees, so after quickly applying some sun tan lotion we hit the park for our first circuit of coaster riding, taking in the delights of Steel Force, Thunder Hawk, Talon, Hydra to name but a few.

All were riding really well and a great day was had by all. The Park closed at 8pm so we chose to have the last ride of the day on Steel Force ... seemed rude not to ! An hour drive to our first hotel and we’re sure gonna sleep well tonight.
