Total Timber Tour 2

The tour parks are listed below. Those with an orange background are parks with woodies "to do" and parks with a blue background have at least one headline coaster we haven't ridden.

Please note, there are two route options for Days 1, 2 and 3 and Days 12 and 13. The final tour route will be decided by the completion and opening of new/relocated wooden coasters at these parks. Please also note that the tour route will be subject to change if there is a delay in riding any of the final 5 woodies on the scheduled day of the visit.

Day 1 - Saturday June 5

Quassy Amusement Park

After flying into Newark, NJ from London, the tour starts off with a quick stop at Dorney Park on the way to Knoebel's. If all goes well, we should get 6-7 hours at this park before close and buy our season passes for the other Cedar Fair parks.

Day 1 - Plan B - Saturday June 5

Six Flags Great Escape

if the Flying Turns project at Knoebels is incomplete, we'll head north towards Canada and stop by at Lake Compounce, Bristol CT, home to one of the best coasters in the country - Boulder Dash - for a few laps in the evening.

Day 2 - Plan A - Sunday June 6

Knoebels Amusement Park

A stop off at Knoebels Amusement Resort, Elysburg, PA to ride the new Flying Turns (subject to completion). This will be the first woodie to 'tick off' on the trip. The park has been trying to recreate this classic since ground was cleared in January 2006. Let's hope it all works out for them this year.

Waldameer

Then an evening riding one of the world's top rated coasters, Ravine Flyer II at Waldameer in Erie, OH.

Day 2 - Plan B - Sunday June 6

Six Flags Great Escape

A secondary plan to re-visit one of our favourite American parks - Great Escape at Queensbury, NY - if the Flying Turns project at Knoebels is incomplete. Home to the world-class Comet coaster.

Day 3 - Plan A - Monday June 7

Marineland

A day in the Niagara Falls area to do the 'tourist' stuff we didn't have enough time for in 2001 as well as checking out the longest coaster in Canada at Marineland.

Day 3 - Plan B - Monday June 7

La Ronde

If following plan B, then our route will take us into Canada through Montreal and a chance to visit a new park, for us at least, La Ronde.

Day 4 -Tuesday June 8

Canadas Wonderland

It will be nearly 9 years to the day since we visited Canada's Wonderland in Vaughan, just outside of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The reason for wanting to revisit is to try the 2008 230ft Behemoth.

Day 5 - Wednesday June 9

Kings Island

Back into the 'States and Kings Mills, near Cincinnatti, OH to Kings Island. A park we've visited many times before, but not since the 2009 230ft Diamondback opened.

Day 6 - Thursday June 10

Kings Dominion

A long drive to Doswell, VA and another familiar park, but the possibility of a brand new 305ft giga-coaster, Intimidator 305 means we have to add it to the itinerary.

Day 7 - Friday June 11

Carowinds

Heading south to Charlotte, NC and another familiar park but, again, the possibility of a brand new 232ft hyper-coaster - also called Intimidator - means we have to add it to the itinerary.

Day 8 - Saturday June 12

Freestyle Music Park

Across to Myrtle Beach, SC for our first visit to Freestyle Music Park. This park has had a rocky start since opening in 2008 as Hard Rock Park and seems to have (on paper at least) a great offering.

Day 9 - Sunday June 13

Wild Adventures

Wild Adventures in Valdosta, GA. Last here as part of a day out from a Florida vacation in 2004. Nothing new since then, but a natural stop on the way to Gulf Shores.

Day 10 - Monday June 14

Waterville USA

The Cannonball Run at Waterville USA, Gulf Shores, AL was "The one that got away" on our first attempt to complete the list of all American woodies in 2008. Our plans were quashed by Hurricane Gustav. We've learnt our lesson since then, and have alternative plans in place should we need to stay here longer than the itinerary to gain this coaster credit!

Dixie Landing

Once The Cannonball Run has been put through its paces, a new park for us to while away the summer evening at Dixie Landin' Family Theme Park, Baton Rouge, LA

Day 11 - Tuesday June 15

After a hectic first 10 days, our one and only non-park day and the chance to rack up some miles driving north.

Day 12 - Plan A - Wednesday June 16

Six Flags Great America

We stopped by at Six Flags Great America, Gurnee IL, on the 2008 trip, but left early due to the crowds. This time we plan to stay for longer and gain a "re-credit"? on the relocated Little Dipper.

Day 12 - Plan B - Wednesday June 16

Six Flags St. Louis

If, for whatever reason, the Little Dipper isn't ready at Six Flags Great America, then we can shorten our drive a little and spend some time at one of our favourite Six Flags parks, Six Flags St. Louis, Eureka, MO.

Day 13 - Plan A - Thursday June 17

Adventureland

A quick stop into Adventureland, Altoona, IA on our way to Kansas City. It's been 10 years since we were last here, although we did drive by on the 2008 trip.

Worlds of Fun

An evening at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, MO to put "Prowler" through her paces (and get that all important woodie credit!) Those that followed the last tour will know we stayed in a cabin on site last time, even though the park was closed. Prowler opened the following May.

Day 13 - Plan B - Thursday June 17

Worlds of Fun

If we don't detour up through Chicago, then we'll be able to spend the full day at Worlds of Fun!

Day 14 - Friday June 18

Frontier City

A part driving, part park day and chance to unwind at Frontier City in Oklahoma City, OK.

Day 15 - Saturday June 19

Joyland Amusement Park

Joyland Amusement Park in Lubbock, TX is the first of 2 new parks for us today. We drove past both of these on the 2008 trip.

Wonderland Amusement Park

An evening at Wonderland Amusement Park in Amarillo, TX.

Day 16 - Sunday June 20

Cliff's Amusement Park

We've only visited Cliff's Amusement Park in Albuquerque, NM once before in 2005 and then only managed one ride on the woodie there before "rain stopped play". Let's hope for better skies this time.

Day 17 - Monday June 21

Castles n' Coasters

Another new park for us, Castles n' Coasters in Phoenix, AZ and our last stop before California.

Day 18 - Tuesday June 22

Belmont Park

The last time we visited Belmont Park in San Diego, CA was 2002. The Giant Dipper wasn't running too well then. It'll be interesting to see if it's improved. It's then the final run into LA. This will be our base for the final 4 nights.

Day 19 - Wednesday June 23

Six Flags Magic Mountain

The final coaster to 'tick off' will be at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Valencia CA. Terminator Salvation: The Ride opened in May 2009. If all goes well, this will be the day we can say we've ridden all wooden coasters in the USA.

Day 20 - Thursday June 24

Disneyland

If we require extra time at magic Mountain (it's a big park) then we'll use today to catch up, otherwise it's Disneyland and Disney's California Adventure, both in Anaheim, CA

Day 21 - Friday June 25

Knott's Berry Farm

Our final full day will be at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA. New to us will be the Sierra Sidewinder which has opened since our last visit in 2005.

Day 22 - Saturday June 26

Universal Studios Hollywood

Tonight we fly home to arrive in London on Sunday. Not before we've popped into Universal Studios Hollywood.
